Afghan War Over -- August 30, 2021

In the Afghan War, American troops were on the ground longer than they were in the Revolutionary War or Vietnam. President Joe Biden, who had promised to bring all the American soldiers home by September 11, has pulled out the last of our soldiers. 

We managed to evacuate almost all Americans and many of the people who helped us. 

The US-backed government disintegrated almost instantly.

People who remained silent when our former so-called president cut and ran from Syria, leaving our allies to the mercy of the government, are attacking President Biden, even though he implemented the deal that our former so-called president had made with the Taliban. 

13 service people died in a suicide bombing, and some people went crazy. President Biden showed his respect when they returned to the US.

In the Afghan War, American troops were on the ground longer than they were in the Revolutionary War or Vietnam. President Joe Biden, who had promised to bring all the American soldiers home by September 11, has pulled out most of the soldiers. Others should be out by the end of August. A training cadre will remain.

The US-backed government will probably fall to the Taliban. Our withdrawal speeds the process.

John Lennon 75 -- October 9, 2015

Happy 75th birthday to the late John Lennon, who was the favorite Beatle of many people.  I went to school with people who tried to look and dress like him.  Many of them made fun of me.  Despite that, I have always liked his music.

He could draw and write poetry and act and sing and play and write music.  Despite his many talents, people always seemed to be trying to tear him down.  I recently read an essay claiming he wasn't a very good musician.  People get jealous.

He certainly did bad and selfish things, but so have lots of other artists, and other human beings.

I suppose some of the disdain comes from people who don't like Yoko Ono.  But I remember when that jerk murdered him.  I saw people more hurt and upset by the death of Elvis Beatle than they were when Elvis Presley died.

Happy Xmas (War Is Over) -- December 17, 2011

The Iraq War was officially over on 15-December-2011.  Most of our troops have left or are leaving.  Welcome home to all of them.

Afghan War 10 Years -- October 7, 2011

It is not over.  Today is the 10th anniversary of the start of the Afghan War.  American troops have been on the ground longer than they were in the Revolutionary War or Vietnam.  I hope they can come home soon.

War is (Not) Over -- August 31, 2010

I want the war to be over, but it is not. We have declared an end to combat operations for our troops in Iraq, but 50,000 of them will still be there. Some of our soldiers will die, as will many Iraqis. The war in Afghanistan continues. Sadaam Hussein is rotting in his grave but worse people running loose in Iraq. President Obama's speech made sense -- we need to fix our economy and encourage the growth of the middle class.
