Shakespeare, 400 Years -- April 23, 2016

Today is the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, on 23-April-1616. He wrote the plays. 

I had read some of the plays before, but I read his complete works one summer while in college. 

We had to memorize Richard III's opening monologue in high school.  I can still recite some of it.  

I played three parts in a high school production of As You Like It.  I can still remember some of my lines.

Mary Anderson as Perdita -- September 7, 2010

Henry Van Der Weyde was a son of Doctor Peter Henri Van Der Weyde. After service in the American Civil War, Henry emigrated to England, where he became a pioneer in taking photographs using artificial light. In this 1887 photo, taken in London, he shows American actress Mary Anderson as Perdita, daughter of Leontes, King of Sicily in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. It is from the collection of the Library of Congress.

It's Hard Work Being a Cat #21 - March 26, 2009

Last night we watched the first two hours of King Lear with Ian McKellen. He was strong. Sylvester McCoy, Dr Who, was the Fool.

At 10 we switched to Life on Mars, which ends next week. Sad.
