Santa Cruz -- February 18, 2025

On Presidents' Day, our daughter and son-in-law took us for a nice ride down Highway One to Santa Cruz. We walked along the boardwalk and had corn dogs for lunch. It was a nice day.

It was interesting to see the pier with its end missing.

Happy Admission Day, 2023 -- September 9, 2023

San Francisco Examiner, 09-September-1924

We don't hear much about Admission Day anymore. Today is the 174th anniversary of California being welcomed into the Union as the 31st state.

I thought it was interesting that the cartoon is set in Santa Cruz and shows the beach and boardwalk, but does not include the Giant Dipper, which went into service that summer.

Family Excursion to Santa Cruz -- February 21, 2021

San Francisco Call, 31-July-1896

The Southern Pacific offered a family excursion from San Francisco to Santa Cruz over its narrow gauge route, the former South Pacific Coast Railroad, which ran from Alameda to Santa Cruz.
