AROUSED OVER
MOB LYNCHING
Reward of $5,000 Offered For
Slayers of Young Negro;
Probe Ordered
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 18 .— A reward of $5,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of one or more members of the mob which lynched Samuel Smith, 15, negro, early yesterday morning.
Chester Hart, judge of the second criminal court, this morning in a special charge to the Davidson county grand jury, demanded a thorough investigation into the lynching.
Attorney General Kirkpatrick today ordered a special corps of his men to do all within their power to run down leaders of the mob.
At a mass meeting of leading citizens to be held tonight it is expected that this reward will be increased
by several thousands of dollars. Every civic organization in the city
has passed resolutions condemning
the action of the mob. The Nashville Ministerial Alliance has adopted similar resolutions.
