There are pro's and con's to this holiday and I'm not going to take a stand.

The annual pumpkin weigh-off in HMB happens on Columbus Day, and since our local schools don't usually observe it, I'd never been over to see it, but this year Redwood City schools *did* take the day off, so we went and checked it out (and went to a pumpkin patch and a hay maze and the usual stuff one does over there).

I'm glad you got to go. It is a big deal. They have some nice pumpkin patches in Half Moon Bay.
