Albert Bierstadt painted "A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie" during an expedition in 1863. He named Mount Rosalie after a friend's wife. The mountain is now called Mount Evans, honoring the second governor of Colorado, John Evans. Evans is remembered as an instigator of the Sand Creek Massacre. The painting is in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum.
