"Babe" Ruth Makes Good In First Game With Sox -- July 11, 2014
100 years ago today, on 11-July-1914, Babe Ruth made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox. He was the winning pitcher against the Cleveland Naps (Indians), although he did not throw a complete game, having been pulled for a pinch hitter in the seventh. That's ironic.
Ruth had been pitching for the Baltimore Orioles which then were a strong independent minor league team. Competition from the Federal League forced them to sell some of their best players.
Both items are from the 12-July-1914 Washington Times.
