On Bloody Thursday, 05-July-1934, police at Mission and Steuart Streets fired
into a marching crowd of strikers, killing two of them. Their public funeral a
few days later led to a general strike and an eventual victory for the
waterfront workers. This is a memorial erected by the ILWU.
We should remember this Labor Day that people died to win us things like 8 hour day and the 5 day week.
